Why convert HEIC to PNG?
Convert HEIC to PNG when you need a lossless copy of an iPhone photo for editing, design work or a program that only accepts PNG. PNG keeps every pixel, so repeated edits do not add compression damage.
When to keep the HEIC
For sharing and uploading, HEIC to JPG is the better choice: a PNG of a 12 megapixel photo can be 15 MB or more.
Tips for the best result
- Choose Quality 100 for a full-colour, lossless PNG. Lower values use fewer colours and give smaller files.
- Use Max dimension, for example 2000 pixels, if you do not need the full camera resolution.
- Camera data such as GPS location, device model and date is removed from the converted file, so it is safe to share.
Common problems and fixes
- The PNG is huge.
- Photos are large without lossy compression. Lower Max dimension, or use HEIC to JPG instead.
- Gradients look banded.
- Convert again at Quality 100 to keep all colours.
HEIC
HEIC – High Efficiency Image Container
HEIC is the format iPhones and many recent cameras use for photos. It keeps files roughly half the size of JPG at similar quality, but it is not supported by most browsers and many apps, so photos are often converted to JPG or PNG before sharing.

PNG – Portable Network Graphics
PNG stores images with lossless compression and supports full transparency, which makes it the usual choice for logos, screenshots and graphics with sharp edges. The trade-off is size: a photograph saved as PNG is normally far larger than the same photo saved as JPG or WebP.

Frequently asked questions
Is PNG better than JPG for iPhone photos?
Only for editing or when a program requires PNG. For sharing, JPG looks the same and is much smaller.
Does the PNG keep the iPhone depth effect?
No. PNG holds a normal flat image; depth maps and Live Photo motion are not part of it.
Does HEIC to PNG work on Android and Windows?
Yes. The page runs in any modern browser, so you can convert iPhone photos on Android phones, Windows PCs and Macs without installing anything.
How do I convert HEIC to PNG?
Click Select File or drop your HEIC file onto the upload box. Pick the quality and maximum size, and the converted PNG appears in the list below with a download button. You can add many files at once and download them together as a ZIP.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark. To keep the service available for everyone there is a 95MB limit per file and a cap on how many files one connection can process in a short period.
Are my files stored?
Your upload is used only to make the converted file. Images are processed in memory; other files are written to a private temporary folder that is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes. Nothing is kept after the result has been sent back.
Will quality drop?
For images, a little, by design: the image is re-encoded at the Quality you choose (default 75%). Audio and video are re-encoded with high-quality settings; documents keep their text and layout as far as the target format allows. Converting never restores detail that is already missing from the original.
How this works: your file is uploaded over HTTPS and converted on this server with open-source engines (libvips for images, FFmpeg for audio and video, LibreOffice and Pandoc for documents, Calibre for ebooks, Ghostscript and Inkscape for PDF and vector files). Images are processed in memory; other files use a private temporary folder that is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes.
