The right CV format

  1. Personal details: name, phone, email, city and LinkedIn. Add a photo, date of birth and nationality only where it is expected (Pakistan, the Gulf, parts of Europe).
  2. Profile: two or three lines about who you are and what you want.
  3. Work experience: newest first, with employer, dates and achievements.
  4. Education: degrees with institution and year.
  5. Skills, languages and certifications.
  6. References: "Available on request" is enough.

CV or resume?

In the UK, Pakistan, India and the Gulf, "CV" usually means the same as a resume: a one or two-page summary of your career. For academic jobs a CV is longer and lists publications and research. Read resume vs CV for the details.
